WebbIf you plan to walk from Shap to Kirkby Stephen in one day it is advisable to omit the detour to Orton, in spite of the attractions of that pretty village with its pub serving bar meals and its chocolate factory. The detour adds another 1.5 miles. Apart from Orton there is nowhere else serving refreshments between Shap and Kirkby Stephen. WebbA long hard day which seemed to go on for hours and hours!! Not much more to say. Scenery again as always has been fantastic. I eventually arrived in KS stopped at the shop and ate at the Black Bull, food was amazing before heading out 2 hours before wildcamping on the top.

Sadly our guide missed the footpath so we all got screamed at by a local Orton woman, we all had to trek back through a particularly nasty wet bog to go the right way.
