WebAnderita, one of the chain of forts of the Saxon shore, is unlike the other shore forts as it is oval in plan. Originally constructed on an island isthmus, it now lies inland. Parts of its perimeter wall is very well preserved and the west gate is the best to have survived from the Roman period anywhere in Britain.
