Normal force doing work
Web9 de out. de 2005 · I think I will answer the task by saying: " Friction can't do positive work, because: (1) In the case of kinetic friction: Kinetic friction always oppose motion so. W = F*d*cos (x>90 degrees) = - F*d. (2) In the case of static friction: Their is no displacement and therefore no work is done. Web1 de ago. de 2024 · Solution 1. In the elevator example, you are correct. The elevator floor does work on you as you stand in a rising elevator. In the jumping example, the floor is not doing work. After all, it is just a floor, it has nowhere to get the energy from to do work on you. (The floor of the elevator gets it from the motor running the elevator.)

Web2 de fev. de 2024 · According to Newton's third law, the normal force ( \footnotesize F_N F N) for an object on a flat surfaces is equal to its gravitational force ( \footnotesize W W ). … WebNormal forces are not, as your elevator example illustrates, "perpendicular to the direction of motion", in general. They are perpendicular, but the perpendicularity in question - which is what the word "normal" refers to - is to the surface on which the object is in contact with. …
WebThe work done is equal to the change of total kinetic energy of the object plus any energy appearing as heat, light, or sound. The speed of the object must change. The object must change height above the ground. The object does an equal amount of work on the force. The force cannot take energy away from the object. Web4 de fev. de 2011 · Apr 17, 2010. #2. rock.freak667. Homework Helper. 6,223. 31. When jumping up, the normal force is in the same direction as the displacement. So it does work. For an object moving horizontally on a surface, the normal force is perpendicular to the direction of the displacement, so that the work done by it is zero.
Web17 de fev. de 2024 · Symbol of normal force: F. Unit of normal force: Newton or N. Dimensions of normal force: MLT -2. The work done by a force is defined as the force times the displacement. W = F x d. Since the normal force does not displace the object, so the work done is zero. W = FN x 0 = 0. 2. On an Incline or Ramp.
