WebDec 31, 2004 · Im going to be doing that on my 68. you just have to drill out the spot welds that hold it in place and it should fall right out. maybe do a little weld over it if you go through the pillar or roof metal. but there is a tool i saw that you can get that drills only through the spot weld so you dont drill through everything and make a mess. WebJan 20, 2012 · The drip rails are attached before the roof skin goes on. If you want to shave them just use a body saw and take your time to cut them off. WebDec 18, 2007 · When I cut off the drip rail I was left with 2 seperated pieces of metal. The inner roof and the outer roof. Also the outer roof has a beveled lip and I had to flatten it. Then I spot welded all along the 2 seams. Then grinded a nice flat surface to the edge. Then I added the rod to the edge and made the outside roof edge flat with the rod edge. WebSep 30, 2005 · Just drill the spot welds or grind them, pull the rail off and toss it in the garbage. The 72, that is a WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY. Those drip rails are welded in between the roof skin and door jamb. Just cutting and grinding them of like Troy recommends IS the start, but only the start of course.

WebSep 25, 2007 · The whole cab is spotwelded together at the drip rail. That's why I did it in sections, welding every other one, then shaving the rest of the sections. The best section width was about 4 inches max.
